Dubai {the aquariums}

We spent all morning of our second day in Dubai at the aquariums. First, we went to the Lost Chambers Aquarium at Atlantis, on the artificial island Palm Jumeirah. Bo and I absolutely love aquariums, and this one was pretty good. Plus, we wanted to check out the island and especially the hotel, which is very similar to the one in the Bahamas. Everything was so nice and very well done, that it almost seemed fake even though it's right in front of you.

We had a reservation that afternoon for a desert safari - which will be an entire post of its own - so we decided to head back towards home base, and hang out there until it was time to leave. We spent a few hours at the Dubai Mall. No shopping for us - holy cow everything was outrageously expensive! (Amy even said it was cheaper to have things shipped from the US than to buy them less than a mile from her place! sheeesh) We stopped for lunch, and while walking around we discovered the Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo - yes, it was inside the mall. We both really liked this aquarium/zoo because there were all kinds of animals and fish that we had never seen before. Which is saying a lot considering we both grew up spending our summers snorkeling in the Bahamas and we now live just a few miles from the Georgia Aquarium (world's largest) here in Atlanta.

I consider myself to be somewhat of a pro when it comes to navigating malls - however, I will admit we actually got lost in the Dubai Mall. The place is enormous and we could not figure out how to get out! We thought we had plenty of time to get back home, but once we finally made it outside, we realized we were on the wrong side of the mall and we were pretty far away. So I snapped a few pictures and we caught a 3 minute cab ride home.

We got back to their place just in time to catch the window washers! I would absolutely hate that job. Pretty fascinating to watch them, though.

And then we headed out to the desert for the rest of the day!

  1. Your photos are so beautiful Lisa! The aquarium looks beyond amazing! Dubai has been on my bucket list since I saw the artificial island and a photo of the Burj Al Arab! I'd love to visit one day, the architecture looks amazing (I'd take so many photos) and the weather always looks beautiful! Can't wait to read more about your trip!

    1. Thanks, Jen! Dubai was incredible. I took about a thousand pictures in four days...it's just so picturesque! The weather was absolutely perfect when we went - the temperatures are WAY to hot in the summertime, even for this Floridian :)

  2. Your photos are incredible!!! I think I would spend way too much time at the aquariums and not want to explore anywhere else. I can't wait to hear about the desert next :)

    1. I might be a little biased, but I do think the one in Atlanta is better :) I hope you have an amazing time, can't wait to hear about your trip!
