FL/GA Weekend

The FL/GA football game in Jacksonville is always one of our favorite weekends of the year. We changed things up a bit last year when we stayed on St. Simons Island (about an hour and a half north of Jacksonville) for the first time. Since most of our friends in Atlanta went to UGA, it worked out really well with carpooling and splitting costs with several other people and having a shorter drive down and back. So we stayed there again this year and will probably stay there from now since it's pretty convenient coming from Atlanta...even if we are the clear minority. Most of the Georgia fans stay there - I don't think we saw any other Gators until gameday. There were 17 of us in total (14 Bulldogs and 3 Gators, which is 1 more Gator than we had last year!) and we all stayed in an awesome rental house for the weekend. It had 4 floors, 2 kitchens, more than enough bedrooms and bathrooms, a pool, and even an elevator.

The house was also just a few blocks away from the infamous beach party that takes place all day on the Friday before the game.

Saturday we woke up really early to head down to Jacksonville. The downside of staying and carpooling with Georgia friends is that we inevitably have to tailgate with them, which just felt wrong.

The best shot of the guys I could get. I'll take it. And because that took so long I forgot to get one with the girls.

the girls...much easier to photograph than the guys!

We eventually met up with some of Bo's family to hang out for a while, and had a great time as always. They take their boat to the game to tailgate, which I think is the best way to go.

Bo and his cousins, Charles and Christopher

His Uncle Charles is a Bull Gator and generously gives us tickets to the game every year - and they are great seats!

Sadly the Gators lost again. So, Bo and I were 0-for-3 going to Gator football games this year. Our football weekend theme for this season seems to be "we lost but other than the game we had a fantastic time". Hoping next season treats us better.

  1. Looks like a great time. Football weather here is cold now - weird to see y'all in flip-flops at the beach!
